Something is changing in southern California. Shorts, T-shirts, and flip-flops are being replaced by jeans, jackets, and boots. Strands of twinkling lights cover the trees. Children everywhere are on their best behavior in order to ensure that they get onto the Nice List of jolly, bearded man that brings gifts. This means one thing: The winter holidays are upon us. One of the best aspects of living in a small beach town is the sense of community, and that becomes most apparent during these busy months. This year, we encourage you to not avoid the crowds but instead, take it all in and enjoy the ambience. Take a walk along Laguna Beach while sipping on tasty cup of hot chocolate, attend a Christmas tree lighting, or witness one of the many popular events that take place in this wonderful part of the world. A Christmas tree and lights, while a traditional part of the season, are only scratching the surface.
One major benefit to living in Southern California is the plethora of events at your disposal. For instance, the Orange County Fairgrounds will become a home to Winter Fest OC December 20 to Janurary 6. Enjoy carnival rides and games, warm drinks, and spectacular decorations while celebrating Christmas and the arrival of 2019.
You can also check out the Newport Beach Christmas Boat parade from December 19-23. It's also fun to take a walk or drive through some of the more festive neighborhoods. A lot of the decorations in these areas are absolutely stunning and have a lot of work put into them. Some of the more popular neighborhoods to look at Christmas lights are Nellie Gale (Laguna Hills), Candy Cane Lane (Rancho Santa Margarita), Balboa Island (Newport Beach) and Birch Street (Brea).
For those of you Disneyland lovers, the theme park looks absolutely phenomenal during the holidays. If going into the park is not on your agenda, we recommend simply parking your car in the Downtown Disney area so that you can take in their incredible firework show. It truly is a magical thing to behold.
As you are out enjoying the atmosphere, it is a a good idea to look your best and big part of looking your best is your hair. Let's look at some of the more fashionable winter hairstyles and colors to choose from.
Whether you're attending a holiday party or working, your hair is going to need some love. That could even mean trying something new and exciting! So what do we expect to be in style this season? Well, you may be surprised to know that the 90s are making a comeback. Accessories from that decade such as banana grips and zig-zag headbands have been appearing frequently in fashion shows. We won't stop at the 90s though! Let's go back further, because the 1960s are still very much relevant with bobs coming back in full force. Topknots and braids are also picking up steam. Or maybe you can try the messy bun, which is also being shown off on runways.
What about colors? Deep browns, shiny reds, and warm blondes will most definitely be in fashion this winter. Dark espresso and bright copper are among the top-selling hair dyes. Honey blonde and cinnamon brown are also in style. If you don't feel the need to completely change your hair color, highlights are a fun option that can make your natural hair color stand out. And on New Year's eve, you can add your choice of glitter to your hair gel to add sparkles. Or add some sparkling hair accessories such as a glitter headband or hairclip to make your hair extra shiny as the clock strikes midnight and we enter a brand new year. As always, we recommend Aveda for hair products due to the high quality ingredients that have been carefully picked to ensure the long-lasting health of your hair.
There's no reason to limit yourself though. You don't have to be trendy, and you may already be in love with your current style and color. That's perfectly fine. The most important thing is that you enjoy the upcoming holiday season and make the most of it.
We are fortunate enough to live in an area that offers an amazing sense of community. We encourage you to look at your city's calendar and go to some events, sip on some hot chocolate, and take in the stunning sights that make the holidays so special.Whatever you decide to do, we at The Studio wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! We'll see you in 2019.
