As this year comes to an end we at The Studio salon would like to say that we hope you had an amazing 2019! For this blog assignment I was given the freedom to write my thoughts on the new year and a lot went through my head. So now 2019 is almost behind us, and we look ahead to 2020. I get to write a New Years blog... on a hair website. Let's see how this goes, shall we? In the span of three months we have Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas... the latter of which is followed by New Year's just under a week later. For a lot of us it's an incredibly hectic time of year, and yet we look forward to and enjoy it. We get to spend a lot of time with our loved ones, eat good food, and if you've been nice all year then you receive gifts! What's not to love? And so New Years comes in and brings with it something of a calm presence, a break, a time to reflect, an opportunity to look ahead, and chance for new beginnings.
For most of us the new year starts out the same: The clock strikes midnight, and we all say "Happy New Year!" What happens next is some people will decide to make changes in their life with a New Year's Resolution. Some, happy with the previous year, will want to leave things more or less the same. Others, on a much deeper level, will ponder what they can do in order to achieve a goal. There is something about putting a new calendar on the wall that gives you the feeling that you are indeed being given a new beginning. For some of us, that's a very comforting thought. For me this was especially true back in 2011 when I was in the midst of a major rough patch. I looked at all the people around me who seemed to be having the time of their lives and decided that I deserved to be happy too. So instead of one resolution I dedicated that entire year to be one of making positive changes in my life. This did indeed provide a more fulfilling life. So New Year's resolutions are great but remember we can do positive things for ourselves at any time of year.
Sometimes we have to fight hard in order to achieve our goals. A quick Google search will tell you that most New Year's resolutions fall flat in under a month but that does not have to be the case for you. Another New Years that stands out for me was the year I made a resolution to support a good friend whose resolution was to quit smoking. I watched her struggle that New Year’s Eve as she watched others around her smoke. When you quit a habit such as smoking it seems like all the smokers in the world decide to hang out wherever you go. So I took the time to hang out with her and did everything I could to keep her mind off smoking. One year later she accomplished her goal and that was a true reason to celebrate. When you read the statistics saying that most New Year's resolutions don't last, you have to realize that the key word is most! You don't have to be part of the negative side of that statistic. You CAN change, even if it does take a little help from your friends.
This New Year, after having the freedom to write about whatever is on my mind regarding the new year, I am thankful because I discovered how much I enjoy writing my personal thoughts. So my New Years resolution for 2020 is start my “own blog” where I can do this on a regular basis (because I of course need to get back to informing you of all things “hair” next time I have an assignment on this Studio website!) Okay, so 2020 has plenty to look forward to, including another hundred Marvel movies (that might be a slight exaggeration), Japan attempting to build a robotic moon base, self-driving cars, and another presidential election. So make 2020 a spectacular year and remember whether it's based on a New Year's resolution, working toward achieving a long list of goals, or just trying to be the best version of yourself you can do it. The most important thing to realize is that we are all individuals, and the ability to make 2020 the best year of your life is completely in your hands. This year, don't let anything stop you from reaching for the stars. And if you stumble that's okay too, because you can pick yourself right back up and continue working toward your dreams. To me, that's what the new year is all about. Whether you look at it as a fresh start or a continuation of a path you've already been walking, this is that one when everyone can look ahead and say, "I am going to make this an amazing year!" Nothing will get in your way, because you deserve to have a fantastic 2020. Hopefully this is as thought-provoking to read as it has been for me to write, and gave you some positive vibes heading into 2020. Until next time, thanks for reading and we at The Studio salon hope that your 2019 has been wonderful, and we wish you a happy New Year!
